Woodacre Nursery School caters for children aged 3-5 years.
Staff created a request on the eTwinning website to be twinned with a school abroad. They selected a core group of 10 pre-school children that they felt would be able to lead the project and correspond directly with Italy with the support of the staff.
The aim was to develop the children’s enterprising skills and foster a ‘can do’ attitude through the medium of citizenship. The children would develop an awareness of their own culture as they compared their life in Scotland to that of a group of 4- and 5-year-old children in a school in Milan.
This would be addressed primarily through the medium of ICT. As stated in Education for Citizenship in Scotland (Learning and Teaching Scotland, 2002), a specific learning experience to address Education for Citizenship is 'Using ICT to question and consult with other people and groups, locally, nationally and internationally'.
