Whitegates Learning Centre joins shared campus

In October 2007, Whitegates Learning Centre in Lochgilphead closed its gates for the last time as a special school. The 11 pupils who were registered there, their teachers, SEN assistants and the school secretary all moved to the new Lochgilphead Joint Campus along with Lochgilphead Primary School, Lochgilphead High School and a pre-school facility.

The Learning Centre traditionally had very good links with the primary schools in the area and the High School. For many years pupils attended mainstream schools for some lessons during the week and some mainstream pupils came to the Learning Centre to focus on early learning skills or personal and social development, or to follow an individualised literacy programme. With a lively and extremely popular pre-school centre, the Area Network Support Team and the Educational Psychologist all based there, the Learning Centre was an open, busy place with sound links with the wider community.
