Shared Sharing Practice

Target setting, tracking and reporting

Project summary

The Moray ASG focused on developing personal learning planning in S5 at Higher level across three subjects - mathematics, English and German. The teachers involved were members of Buckie High School's AifL group, which had been working towards embedding the key features of AifL across the school. They were keen to extend their own practice through personal learning planning with senior students, and this coincided with new, more regular reporting to parents for senior students.

The ASG encountered some problems – mainly related to time management – but all three teachers and their students felt that the process of identifying strengths and weaknesses (via teacher and/or peer input), setting targets, addressing targets and thereby improving performance was very successful. Teachers noted that students were achieving better grades than might have otherwise been expected, and, in written evaluations, students themselves recognised the role target setting had played in helping them to achieve.
