Shared Sharing Practice

St Margaret's RC Primary, Cowie

The school intends to build on this experience in these ways:

  • apply methodology to other contexts for learning and in other subject areas, for example active learning in maths
  • review and adapt the learner’s experience to make it increasingly rich, relevant and engaging in all subject areas, taking greater account of the principles of curriculum design
  • continue to develop responsive planning with pupils
  • explore a method for measuring personal achievement and involving pupils in this process, for example pupils identifying their needs and continuously reflecting on progress through a learning log.

The particular challenges identified in carrying out the project with this class were:

  • challenging personalities within the class have to learn to work together
  • ensuring other curriculum areas are consistently developed and addressed at the same time
  • responsive planning takes some time to get used to, as it involves a different way of thinking and approach to topic development
  • teacher has to relinquish some control of the direction of learning to accommodate a more ‘learner led’ process
  • setting appropriate pace, challenge and enjoyment requires more thought and careful consideration
  • resourcing for new contexts requires a greater level of creativity and collaboration between schools and teachers.
