St Margaret's RC Primary, Cowie

Pupils and paintings

St Margaret’s RC Primary School is situated in the village of Cowie, five miles to the east of Stirling.  The school was built in 1915 and an extension was added in 1961. The school provides denominational primary education for children of parents living in Cowie and the neighbouring villages of Fallin, Plean and Throsk. These are local communities which have their history in the mining industry and as a result have experienced major economic upheaval since the early 1980s. It is, however, a community that is beginning a process of regeneration, with significant new private housing growth in the area.

The school currently has six classes, with 135 children on the roll.

The class involved in the project was Primary 6/7 containing 24 pupils (11 Primary 6 pupils and 13 Primary 7 children). Some of the children had been involved in a similar project during the previous session that required them to work collaboratively, which many of them found challenging. The children’s experience of working in this way was varied.
