HM Inspectorate of Education and Learning and Teaching Scotland held a national Good Practice conference on Wednesday 5 November 2008 to celebrate good and improving practice in special schools and units in Scotland and to identify challenges for the future.

The programme included

Special schools can have an enabling role in taking forward Curriculum for Excellence, which aims to bring about transformational change and ensure the best possible education for every single child and young person. Improving children’s and young people’s experiences in special schools and units will contribute to ensuring an effective curriculum framework to meet the needs of all learners.
The conference also involved setting up a community of good practice online within Glow, where workshop presenters could continue to engage with practitioners to share and celebrate their good practice.
