Manuel Montenegro studied at university in Colombia and at the University of Edinburgh. He has been teaching for 20 years, in five schools.
At St Thomas of Aquin’s, Manuel teaches modern languages and has special responsibility for Spanish. He has acquired his ICT skills by attending continuing professional development (CPD) courses, by practising at home and by learning from pupils (especially about short cuts!) Manuel uses ICT in most classes, even if it is only to encourage pupils to type their work on a PC.
St Thomas of Aquin’s High School is situated in the centre of Edinburgh. There are 710 pupils, of whom 76 have free school lunches and 20 speak English as a second language. Between 18 and 20 per cent of pupils are recorded as having special educational needs.
There are 300 computers and the school has a broadband connection. Each classroom has two computers and there are two computer rooms. Continuing professional development (CPD) training in ICT is available and the school’s ICT Department offers in-house training.
