School profile

Webster’s High School is in Kirriemuir, Angus, and has a roll of approximately 800 pupils. The school serves an extensive rural area which extends a distance of 27 miles.

There is particularly high uptake of science courses by pupils in S3-S6 within Webster’s.

Project aims

The Principal Teacher of Science, Dr Cara Matthew, was keen to add relevance to already lively course-work and to link topics to real-life issues. She planned to have an interactive display of current news stories with a scientific focus.

Using the media as a rich source of information, learning opportunities could be exploited, and students encouraged to become more actively engaged with their course-work. The Science Department had two S6 prefects, and the project would provide the opportunity for them to take some responsibility for motivating younger pupils.
