St Brendan's Primary School - Highlighting fair trade

All about us

St Brendan's Primary School is a denominational school in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire. It has a roll of approximately 160 pupils. It was the first school in Scotland to be awarded Fairtrade School status from SCIAF (Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund). The headteacher, Sallie Fraser, had been at the school for a few months, and had encouraged the development of the school's Fairtrade School status.

How it all began

Class teacher Marion O' Hara had given a presentation about fair trade to a group of pupils, highlighting Fairtrade Fortnight's 10th birthday. The presentation motivated the pupils to take action by raising awareness about fair trade and encouraging the school community to try fair trade products.

Their campaign was very successful, and engaged with the wider school community, including local organisations and businesses.
