Planning for a broad general education

Introduction

Focus task

The headteacher took part in the national Testing the Framework Programme and has produced proposals for change which are summarised in the accompanying documents. Planning for a broad general education in S1-S3 has been the focus of this school’s task. A particular aim is to move from the school’s current position on early presentation for national qualifications in S3, towards the national policy outlined in Building the Curriculum 3.

Curriculum map

The high level curriculum map provided (see related documents) is an illustrative summary of the school’s proposals for S1-S6, with further detail on S1-3. The plans for the senior phase will be for S4-S6.

A timetable for phasing in the new curriculum, including changes in the school’s presentation policy, has been drawn up for 2008-14 (see related documents). Development actions are identified for each school session to support the implementation of the proposals in the curriculum map.
