Scotland - world champions!  That isn’t something you hear very often, but that’s precisely the situation with Rock-It-Ball, a new sport which is set to become popular with adults and youngsters alike.

Lornshill Academy is one of only three secondary schools in Clackmannanshire and for Scotland’s smallest local authority, the importance of physical education, school sports and the provision of extra-curricular opportunities are seen as real priorities.

For S3 and S4 pupils at Lornshill, core PE consists of a school certificate course during which pupils are able to choose what activities they will follow. As well as offering an extensive list of traditional sports, staff are always looking for new ideas which will benefit the youngsters and, more importantly, which they will enjoy. To these ends Rock-It Ball seemed ideal.

In November 2006 the Clackmannanshire Sports Development Team organised a ‘Creativity Day’ for PE specialists and other interested parties. A wide range of activities was put on offer, including Rock-It-Ball. The Lornshill PE team was instantly impressed at what the game had to offer and immediately invested in some equipment with a view to including Rock-It-Ball as part of the core PE curriculum.
