
Rashielea Primary is situated in the town of Erskine, Renfrewshire. The school has a roll of 422 pupils and a staff of 21.
Tianjin Experimental Primary School is situated in the port city of Tianjin, which is approximately two hours' drive south east of Beijing. The school has a roll of approximately 4600 pupils and a teaching staff of about 280 spread over two campuses.
The project was started by Gordon Manson, Depute Headteacher at Rashielea, who was invited to join a delegation of Scottish headteachers and depute heads who visited Tianjin, China, in October 2005. The visit was funded by the Scottish Government and organised by the British Council. As part of the visit the British Council matched Rashielea Primary with Tianjin Experimental Primary School.
During the visit to China, Gordon visited the link school for an afternoon as well as visiting two other primary schools in the city.
