Shared Sharing Practice

Personalisation and choice P7 to S1 - St Columba's High School

Feedback from pupils, parents and staff has been extremely positive. It is clear from evaluations that pupils’ participation in planned learning experiences which encompass the ethos and life of the school has benefited pupils’ personal growth and development and contributed to a positive whole school ethos and sense of community.

Other outcomes from the evaluation show:

  • improved attendance, behaviour, motivation and attainment
  • pupils are better known by their teachers, helping them to support pupils’ next steps
  • teachers and pupils are enjoying working together in a more collaborative way.

Future plans

As a result of the success of this development the school intends to:

  • continue to offer similar programmes for P7 pupils into S1
  • develop and improve learning activities in S1 using the experiences and outcomes to provide opportunities for collaborative approaches and working across a range of departments
  • extend approaches to sharing practice and collaborative planning to support pupils’ learning experiences across S1-S3
  • explore further development of more flexible arrangements for the organisation of learning, class groups, and teaching teams across S1-S3.
