In early 2007 the senior management team at St Columba’s High School was keen to make progress in implementing Curriculum for Excellence and to take forward the advice in Progress and Proposals. In particular, they wanted to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the programme for greater flexibility in the curriculum in order to introduce interdisciplinary learning experiences and enhance personalisation and choice for their young people.
In order to support their improvement plans they decided to introduce a maximum class size of 20 for all S1 and S2 classes from August 2007. This step was designed to enable greater flexibility in organising class groups and to provide greater potential for interchanging groups across all curriculum areas.
