Performance analysis software in volleyball

Introduction to performance analysis software

Alan Craw teaches physical education (PE) at Annan Academy. He uses digital video and Focus X2 (performance analysis software) to help his pupils to improve their volleyball technique. First, Alan films the pupils playing volleyball in the sports hall. Back in the classroom, he discusses the performance of the two teams by going through the footage and analysing ‘single events’ in the game.

Teacher profile

Alan Craw studied at Jordanhill College and has been teaching for 16 years – all at Annan Academy. He is the curriculum leader in physical education and health and food technology. Alan has developed his ICT skills through personal experimentation, helped by New Opportunities Fund (NOF) in-school training and a Masterclass course.

Alan’s use of ICT in his teaching is limited due to the nature of his subject, but he uses it ‘as often as is practically useful’ for promoting teaching and learning.
