Ms Mackenzie has been teaching for 25 years. She gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational ICT in 1991 and is an ICT area coordinator. She supports 25 schools, including Crosshouse Primary School, by helping them to implement ICT in the curriculum. Each school is allocated a certain number of hours of Ms Mackenzie’s time and the school decides how best to make use of that time. She loves her job. She says that she gets to teach ‘without the marking, reports and parents’ nights’!
Ms Mackenzie’s introduction to digital video was at Masterclass, but she has since run video clubs in three schools, so is now very familiar with the technology. She has a video camera and a laptop, which she brings to the club session to add to the school’s resources.
Crosshouse Primary is on the outskirts of East Kilbride and has 265 pupils, 74 of whom have free school lunches. The school has an ICT area with 20 computers and an ISDN network connection. ICT coordinator Ms Mackenzie has three days allocated each term to help at the school.
