Be aware and set guidelines

Be aware of the risks in using mobile phones in the classroom and set firm guidelines with students. For example, spend time discussing why the following uses would be considered inappropriate:

  • taking a photo of someone without permission
  • publishing a photo on the web or showing a photo to a third party without written permission from the person photographed
  • recording a teacher or other student without their permission
  • making a phone call or sending a text message to someone outside or inside the class during a lesson
  • walking around the school or in the street with a mobile phone on display.

It's also worth discussing how the students think they could use their mobile phones in the classroom.
