Minikickers - North Ayrshire Council

Like all early education and childcare providers, North Ayrshire is always keen to look at how it can provide interesting and effective learning experiences for young children. Another key concern is to increase levels of physical activity in children. The Council was therefore delighted when there was an approach by the local Scottish Football Association, asking if there would be an interest in piloting mini-kickers sessions in nurseries throughout North Ayrshire.

After some discussion a proposal was agreed, which involved:

• in-service training for staff
• purchase of appropriate resources
• input to the nursery children from the coaches.

This all took place five years ago and the programme is now well established and very successful.
