Taking creativity outdoors with transient art - London Road Nursery School

About the nursery

London Road Nursery School has been at the forefront of many curricular innovations while striving to maintain a Centre of Excellence for its children, aged 3-5 years. The headteacher and staff have always been open to new thinking and ideas from research, which help to engage and challenge children’s dispositions towards independent learning.

Developments include a very good programme for physical development and movement, the integration of ICT across the curriculum, taking the learning outdoors and consulting with children.

Inspiration and aims of the project

During 2005, Transient Art was used as a context for developing the expressive and aesthetic curriculum outdoors, while giving children choice and access to be creative. This medium was inspired by an interest in the work of environmental artist and sculptor Andy Goldsworthy. The best bit about environmental art is that it is very inclusive, at little cost (excluding any photography), compared to some resources.
