Susan Buchanan is a primary teacher at Woodhill School. In this lesson, she is using PC tablets and a PowerPoint presentation to teach a P7 set. The subject for this session is the political leaders of World War 2.
Ms Buchanan’s pupils are already familiar with the basic tools of PowerPoint. Her aim today is to revise what the class has learned in previous lessons and to introduce the pupils to some new tools for adding hyperlinks and action buttons to the PowerPoint presentation.

Ms Buchanan has been teaching for 11 years, in two different schools. She has been working at Woodhill School for the last six years and is currently teaching a P3 class. She uses ICT three to five times a week across all the curriculum areas and is the ICT coordinator for the school.
Ms Buchanan is very familiar with ICT and has a real personal interest in technology and how it can support teaching. From January 2001 to December 2002, Ms Buchanan worked on a two-year secondment as an ICT Officer for East Dunbartonshire Council. In this position she gained invaluable knowledge on the use of ICT to enhance learning and teaching.
She has gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Computing and has completed New Opporunities Fund (NOF) training. Ms Buchanan is currently a member of Masterclass and supports other schools in the authority with ICT.
Woodhill Primary is situated in Bishopbriggs, a suburban area south of Glasgow. There are 390 pupils, 23 of whom have free school lunches. Five pupils are recorded as having special educational needs. About 60-65 pupils have English as their second language.
The school has 42 computers, one in each classroom, and they are connected in a network. There are two computer suites. Some ICT training is available in-school for staff, augmented by local education authority courses and other courses like Masterclass.
