Interactive voting systems in biology

Ms Cruikshank revises the heart and circulatory system with her S3 biology class. After running through the main points on the interactive whiteboard, the pupils use an interactive voting system to test how much they know. At the end they immediately see their score.

Teacher profile

Ms Cruikshank studied at Aberdeen University and has been teaching for 19 years and now teaches biology to S1-S6 pupils and science to S1 and S2 pupils.

She has had New Opportunities Fund, European Computer Driving Licence and Masterclass training in ICT and has also picked up good ideas from colleagues. The deputy head is the school’s ICT coordinator. Ms Cruikshank uses ICT in most lessons.

The Gordon Schools are in the small town of Huntly in Aberdeenshire. The 901 pupils are mainly from the rural area around Huntly. 54 pupils have free school lunches, 24 are recorded as having special educational needs and six pupils speak English as a second language.

The school has 280 computers. There is at least one in every classroom and there are four ICT suites.
