Introduction

This project was undertaken by the children of Hermitage Park Nursery Class, who incubated and hatched 18 chicken eggs. They gathered, recorded and shared relevant information with the wider community.

Hermitage Park Primary was founded in 1910. It is an inner city school which serves the Restalrig/Lochend areas of Leith in Edinburgh, drawing its pupils from a mixture of local authority and private housing. The nursery is based in an extension which has been upgraded in recent years. There is a main playroom and a stimulating outdoor area which has been developed over the past few years and is now promoted as an example of excellence in eco-campus learning. The nursery caters for 30 children, morning and afternoon. It is staffed by one teacher and four nursery nurses.
