Introduction

Merkland School is a special school for pupils aged 5-14 in Kirkintilloch. 

The school serves the entire area of East Dunbartonshire with 14 per cent of the intake from placements from other local authorities. Pupils have a wide range of additional support needs. 

There is a specialist support base within the school which supports secondary pupils with language and communication disorders in accessing the curriculum. In September 2004, the school roll was 74 pupils, 17 primary and 57 secondary.
