This case study explains developments which have been taking place in Glenlee Primary School since 2007. As these developments will continue throughout school session 2008-09, a return visit will be made to the school to find out what has been achieved and the impact on the children. A follow-up case study will be provided in summer 2009.

Focus of case study

The focus of the case study is:

  • Active learning into Primary 1
  • Developing continuity of approach and learning from nursery into primary, as part of the implementation of Curriculum for Excellence.

‘School is great. It is fun learning and you get to see and do exciting things. We get to play and learn at the same time.’ (P1 pupil)

'I have far more time to actually interact and work with my children. I am not bogged down in paperwork and this approach is far less stressful. I can respond and plan for the children’s needs and they are more motivated and engaged in their learning. Making the changes involved more work initially but it has been worth it long term.’ (Class teacher)
