Glenisla Primary School - International links develop active pupil participation

School profile

Glenisla Primary School is a small rural school near Kirriemuir, in Angus. There are two teachers and 19 pupils. The headteacher also manages two neighbouring small schools. Links with the wider community are strong, with parents actively involved in the life of the school. All of the pupils have a wider responsibility within the school, through membership of the Pupil Council, the Eco Committee or the Enterprise committee.

The Comenius Links project

Glenisla has been involved in a Comenius project for several years, and has established links with schools in Austria, Latvia, Slovakia and Slovenia. Staff from the schools have visited each other, and children send written materials and art and craft items to their peers in other countries. The Comenius project has been a catalyst for several whole school community developments, including grounds development and cultural initiatives, with funding from the project being used across the curriculum.
