Introduction

Carrick Academy, Maybole, is a semi-rural, secondary school in South Ayrshire with 520 pupils. There is a major focus on competitive sport across all year groups.

To improve and maintain young people's fitness level and eating habits, a cross-curricular project was developed - ‘Fit to Skip’ - involving the Home Economics, Physical Education, English and Design Technology departments.

The project involved
  • all 92 second year pupils (12-13 years old)
  • fourth year students (15-16 years old) acting as mentors
  • staff within Home Economics, Physical Education, English and Design Technology.
