St Columbkille’s Primary School in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, set up a business partnership with the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in September 2007.

Having met a representative from RBS at a local Enterprise Forum, teachers at the school discussed the feasibility of operating a bank in the school, run by P6 pupils. The selling point to pupils and parents was that this was an ideal way to save up for the annual trip to France undertaken by Primary 7 pupils. The teacher readily agreed to give it a go and the bank is now an ongoing success, having recently been extended to include Primary 5 pupils.
