Flexible planning, close observation and the ability to reflect on how things have gone all help adults to ensure that the environments children find themselves in are as responsive and thoughtful as possible.

Points for reflection

Inclusive experiences where children can come together with adult support are important. They need to be planned for and carefully evaluated.

  • What do you think the aim of this experience was?
  • Did the experience extend the children’s learning? Was it fun? How do you know?
  • What opportunities do you provide for children to play alone, alongside and with others? How might you record children’s responses to these experiences?
