Making connections in learning - a thematic approach

'The best thing was being allowed to have an imagination and not be told you were wrong.' (S1 pupil)

Focus of the case study

This example of an interdisciplinary study focuses on a Climate Change theme (‘Clim8 Change’) and took place over a two-week period around a holiday weekend, ie two four-day weeks. A similar, shorter, themed event on Global Warming was held, with S1 pupils, during session 2007-08 and this project built upon that experience. Young people and staff worked together using new planning approaches which were intended to help make connections in the learning and take account of the:

  • environment for learning
  • choice of learning and teaching approaches
  • ways in which learning is organised.

This case study refers to the draft experiences and outcomes issued in 2008. There may be differences in the final versions and code numbers.
