Interdisciplinary learning opportunities for S1 pupils will be extended during session 2008-09 over three blocks of time.
Staff who led this first planning team are now working collaboratively with colleagues, sharing their experiences of planning interdisciplinary learning and teaching, and building on the new knowledge and expertise they have gained. As a result, two further teacher teams will lead the second and third interdisciplinary projects planned for this session 2008-09. These will be based on ‘Fit for Life’ and ‘Global Citizenship’.
Further collaborative planning by primary and secondary staff will take place between October and February 2009 for the third S1 broad–based theme (Global Citizenship), which will include Primary 7 pupils as part of their transition work for secondary school.
There will be further use of the draft experiences and outcomes, helping subject teachers to gain a better understanding of the need for young people to be able to make connections in learning and in this way to provide a coherent curriculum experience for young people.
Collaboration among staff, examining experiences and outcomes within and across subject areas, is planned to ensure that the principles for curriculum design are embedded in future curriculum developments.
Outcomes from the pilot projects are being shared across the authority.
A schedule will be produced for the wider dissemination of exemplar programmes.
At school level feedback will be used to improve aspects of the planning process to improve the organisation of future interdisciplinary developments.
School and council strategy will continue to be developed, taking account of evaluations.
