Sport and Recreation Intermediate 1
Cults Academy in Aberdeen and Aberdeen College were initial pilot centres for the Skills for Work Sport and Recreation Intermediate 1 course. The school works with the college to deliver the course, with responsibility for delivering specific units divided between the organisations.
Cults Academy is a city school situated in the west of Aberdeen, with 138 members of staff and approximately 1140 pupils drawn from a wide ability range. The PE Department has four full-time and two other members of staff. In addition to the Skills for Work course, courses on offer include Standard Grade and Higher PE, Higher Performance unit and Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership. The department also teaches core PE to S1–S4 pupils, and offers an option for S5/6 pupils to select core PE or a football module. The school is due to be rebuilt, creating excellent new facilities which will allow PE staff to offer a wider range of courses and activities.
Aberdeen College is Scotland’s largest college of further/higher education and vocational training. Aberdeen College operates across four main teaching areas, with the Sports Team falling under the Technology, Science, Sport and Leisure Sector. In addition to the Skills for Work courses, the Sports Team offers HNC/D in Sport and Recreation Management, HND Fitness, Health and Exercise and HND Sports Coaching with Development of Sport, as well an Introduction to Sport, Leisure and Fitness and Sport, Leisure and Fitness.
