Crombie Primary School is located in the town of Westhill, eight miles west of Aberdeen. The school has a roll of approximately 350 children and includes a nursery and learning centre with provision for children who have additional support needs.

A P4 class of 31 children took part in the project. The class comprised children of varying abilities and included one child who attended on a shared placement basis.

The Art Exhibition was initially conceived as a short, focused project, in which the children would take photographs of their favourite places in the local area as a homework activity. After choosing their favourite picture, the children would produce their own artistic interpretation of it in a medium of their choice with support from an art specialist. Parents would then be asked to come in and view the photographs and pictures in an exhibition format.
