This was a new area for the school to be involved with. It came out of an observation that pupils had mechanical ICT skills but were unable to apply them spontaneously and systematically in a research context.
It was hoped that working with Primary 6 and taking them through the process would enable them to select the appropriate skills for carrying out research.
The focus was religions of the world. Whilst there were content areas to cover, through the curriculum, the teachers were keen that the focus was on skills. The lessons took seven weeks and were paced so that a skill was taught and the pupils were given the chance to use that skill during the lesson and then to reinforce the same skill the next week.
Time was also given for individual research. The sessions tied in with Curriculum for Excellence.
