St. Philomena’s Primary School is a one-stream denominational school with a roll of approximately 170. The school is situated in the northeast of Glasgow, serving the communities of Blackhill, Hogganfield and Robroyston. The headteacher, Claire Harvey, has sat on Glasgow City Council’s Values and Citizenship Steering Committee.

The project – Building Our Skills (BOS)

Pupils working together in classLearners were involved in a variety of whole school initiatives which contributed to a supportive school ethos and developed self-esteem and interdependence. The headteacher wanted to build on these elements and find an approach that would bring them together in a more focused way. She hoped to increase pupil confidence through providing a wider range of experiences. It was important to share this work and explore the school’s values with the whole community – children, parents and staff.
