introduction

Peter Gilhooly is a physical education (PE) teacher at Broxburn Academy. In today’s lesson he is working with one of his final year pupils, Samantha, who is a competitive line dancer. Peter uses a digital camera to record Sam’s performance. Then, together with Sam, they make use of iMovie editing software to analyse her dance show.

Teacher and school profile

Peter Gilhooly has been teaching for 25 years in two different schools. He is currently teaching S1-S6. For the past year, Peter has been principal teacher in charge of art, music, PE, and craft, design and technology at Broxburn Academy. For 16 years before that, he was principal teacher of PE.

Peter uses ICT quite a lot at Standard Grade level. He has recently developed, with Learning and Teaching Scotland, a CD-ROM for use in evaluation of PE. He has also been designing a website, www.sportzone.org , to support the teaching and learning of both Standard Grade and Higher PE.

Peter has attended courses on FileMakerPro and ClarisWorks, and has had training in the use of video in PE. Otherwise, he has developed his ICT skills by exploring the technology in his own time, using the internet and books. There is a full-time ICT coordinator at the school and Peter is working with him to design a policy for the integration of ICT across all subjects.
