A digital video project about the weather forecast

Billy Flynn is an IT officer for Angus Council Education Department. For four years he has been running an evening computer club at Arbroath Academy. The six club members, aged between 11 and 16 years, are currently working on a digital video project – a weather forecast – for which they have prepared a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. In this evening’s session they take it in turns to present the weather forecast and operate the equipment.

Teacher profile

Billy studied computing at Angus College and has worked as an IT officer with Angus Council Education Department for four years. He has an HND in Computer Support and a diploma in PC repair. 

Billy travels around 60 primary schools in Angus maintaining hardware, implementing intranet sites and sorting out any IT problems. He also works as an ICT tutor in the evenings. 

School profile

Arbroath Academy, in Arbroath on the east coast of Scotland, has 583 pupils. 110 pupils have free school lunches and there are 19 pupils with special educational needs. There are no pupils who speak English as a second language. 

The school has 256 computers and a dedicated ICT room. The post of ICT coordinator is part of the depute headteacher’s remit. Staff are able to complete the continuing professional development (CPD) online ICT course.
