Learn German with Art Experience Art in German

The Goethe-Institut invites you and your colleagues from the Art Department to explore possibilities of cross-curricular projects between these two subject areas.

The Curriculum for Excellence, which is widely discussed in Scottish education, poses very significant challenges to teachers and learners:

  • subjects should further an international perspective and global awareness;
  • earning and teaching should be done through realistic and complex contexts; &
  • teachers should identify opportunities for integrating subjects with other areas of the curriculum.

We would like to offer you the opportunity to address these challenges by looking at the implications and benefits of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL). This holistic approach aims to overcome the restraints of the traditional school curriculum through teaching a non-language subject partly through the medium of a second or foreign language. A shift towards curricular integration could be one way to introduce a more global and international dimension to the non-language subject on the one hand and will provide a relevant and stimulating context to the foreign language classroom on the other hand.

Daniel Herrmann, Curator at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art; will introduce the topic of German Art and Artists for Scottish learners.
