Learning and Teaching Zone on Wednesday

This programme of free sessions at the Learning and Teaching Zone in the Scottish Education Village within Hall 5 will highlight examples of innovative practice from educational practitioners and some of the resources available through the Learning and Teaching Scotland Online Service.

11.00Using ICT Resources in the Classroom
Pupils will show examples of some of the International work of Woodhill Primary school through our school website and blogs. This will include: 
  1. European Project work/ Comenius links.
  2. Passeport SantĂ©  - a link with France and England which is allowing us to develop a more active approach to the teaching of French in Woodhill, incorporating blogging and podcasting.
  3. Our e-twinning link with a primary school in Paris - also incorporating the use of blogging.
11.40Computer games based learning
Whether you love playing computer games or not, come and see what can be done with Gamemaker. This exciting software enables children to create their own computer games and is a very useful tool for delivering the curriculum. Gamemaker is guaranteed to motivate all children as they watch their games grow.

13.00Sustainable Development.
To mark the launch the new Climate Change resource developed by LTS for Scottish secondary schools, Learning and Teaching Scotland is hosting a live satellite web chat between a group of young people and British Antarctic Survey scientists at the Halley Research Station in Antarctica. Come along to get involved in the web chat and find out more about the new Climate Change resource.
13.40Using ICT Resources in the Classroom
This session will introduce Learnnewsdesk, a new resource for literacy in English and Gaelic. It is an online news service for school pupils which provides a real-life context for curriculum topics, and helps to improve pupils' literacy by encouraging a daily reading habit. With new articles and features every day, teachers will always be able to find trustworthy resources and inspiring classroom activities that engage their pupils
