Fringe events at the Scottish Learning Festival 2007

With the education community coming together in Glasgow for the Scottish Learning Festival, a number of other events take place at the same time as the festival making the Scottish Learning Festival a unique opportunity for professional development and networking with peers.

Here are some of the fringe activities taking place in Glasgow at the time of the festival.

These include:

Wednesday 19th September
TitleLeadership for Learning Lunch

Description

Lunch for around 200 Head teachers and Management teams for across Scotland to launch the next phase of the Leadership for Learning programme. This will provide an opportunity for participants to meet and network with other pre residential course and receive information on the programme.

Coaches will be leaving from the Scottish Learning Festival at the main entrance of the SECC to the Hilton Hotel at 11.30. Coaches will return from the Hilton Hotel to the SECC at 14.15.

Description

Developed in association with Learning and Teaching Scotland and the Centre for Confidence and Well Being, In the Wild gives delegates the chance to debate issues surrounding the ways in which young people interact with new media and discover the innovations which are transforming how young people engage with the media and the future of education.

The event will also provide a first opportunity to hear about the radical new ideas being developed by Channel 4 Education.

Featuring a mix of presentations, panel discussions and facilitated conversations this event will conclude with an early evening drinks reception.

Following on from the success of the Gaelic Masterclass held in Stirling Management Centre in November 2006, a re-call day is being made available for all participants.

This opportunity will give participants a chance to meet up with colleagues and share both their experiences and teaching practices. As well as the Masterclass event, participants will be given ample time to visit the extensive range of Scottish Learning Festival seminars and workshops.

The International Reception is held at the City Chambers in Glasgow as a welcome event to Scotland for all international delegates and speakers to the Scottish Learning Festival 2007. The reception is hosted by the Scottish Executive and Learning and Teaching Scotland.

Coaches will be leaving from the Scottish Learning Festival at the main entrance of the SECC to the City Chambers at 18.00.
