Promoting Mental and Emotional Wellbeing in Secondary Schools

DEAL is a modular pack designed to complement the Health and Wellbeing curriculum and to be used by teachers as part of delivering Curriculum for Excellence rather than as a stand alone topic. Aimed at 14–16 year olds, the material encourages the pupils to consider their own emotional health and how it fluctuates depending on circumstances affecting them; to be aware of the feelings of their peers and the importance of encouraging friends to seek help; and it promotes the message that talking about feelings and seeking help early can help to relieve pressure and avoid crises arising.
