Seminar Description

Following a rigorous selection process twelve S3 pupils were selected to take part in a unique Leadership Programme in partnership with Brathay.  The pupils spent a week in the Lake District developing their leadership skills through a wide range of activities including:  Ghyll Scrambling; Pamper Pole; High/Low Rope Challenge, Night Orienteering and T Shirt Screen printing. 
Pupils also developed ideas on school improvement projects, which they would work on throughout the next year.  These include:

  • Developing Pupil Voice
  • Disabled Access in school
  • Raising the profile of the school through Drama activities
  • Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
  • Creating Motivational Environments – notice boards, classroom displays etc.
  • School Discipline – pupil rep on Working Group
  • Fund Raising

The pupils have recently assisted the Science Department by working with younger pupils in the feeder Primary Schools. 
Future Events

  • Power point presentation to all House Assemblies
  • Recruitment of teams to assist with school improvement
  • Implementation of projects
  • Monitoring – impact the project is having
  • 12 pupils working on two Open College Network Modules: Leadership Skills and Peer mentoring  - ongoing assessment/folio of work
  • Creation of a newsletter to keep pupils, parents, staff informed as to the progress of projects, up coming events etc
  • Development of a pupil leadership page on school website.
