Seminar Description

Using Nintendo’s WiiSports as the Contextual Hub for a Cross-curricular Project

Creating rich learning tasks via resources that are engaging, challenging and involving can provide teachers with the contexts and openings to explore and enrich the learner experience. Vicky Mackenzie did just this when she thought she would use the tennis games within Wii Sports for the Nintendo Wii as the contextual hub for a cross-curricular project in her P7 class.

This presentation will focus on how the series of rich learning tasks that emanated from this project engaged, motivated and enthused the pupils and how the project was shared within Glow.
There will also be a focus on how this context had a positive impact on attitudes to learning and to the social dynamic within the class. This really was a project where active learning took place, literally.
