Seminar Description

Today's learners increasingly look for information online rather than consulting books available in the school library and a high percentage now have access to the internet at home as well as in school.  But a key problem with the vast majority of free online resources is that the quality of information cannot be guaranteed - who has written it, has it been reviewed for accuracy, is it an unbiased view, is it up to date?
This session will show how, through Glow, teachers and pupils will have access to a world of trusted online information sources such as the Oxford Reference Online, Oxford Language Dictionaries Online, Keesing’s Archive of World Events, Science Resource Centre, Grove Art Online and Grove Music Online through a unique collaboration between JISC Collections and LTS. Teachers can link to individual definitions, articles, chapters or images from Glow Learn, all resources can be used on interactive whiteboards in the classroom, excerpts from databases can be incorporated into teaching materials and student projects.
A wide selection of other features are offered within the resources as appropriate - for example carefully-selected links to vetted websites to guide follow-up study, timelines and themed articles with direct links to relevant content to provide pathways through the database, and specially-created materials for teachers and learners.
