Seminar DateThursday 25 September
Start Time10:30
Duration45 minutes
Seminar Description

GTC Scotland (GTCS) shall be launching its new Code of Professionalism and Conduct in mid 2008.  This follows a consultation process with the public, parents and alongside the Standard for Full Registration (SfR) the Profession and the Code sets out in clear terms the standard of conduct and competence expected of a registered teacher.

Together with a commentary on the many issues raised in the Code, there are 4 main sections namely:Professionalism and Maintaining Trust in the Profession; Professional Responsibilities towards Pupils; Professional Competence; Professionalism towards Colleagues and Parents.

This year’s Scottish Learning festival will take place a few months after the launch of the Code and it being rolled out across Scotland.

Given the ever-increasing importance of child protection and significance of self-regulation in the post-Shipman era, this seminar would raise further awareness of the Code and the principles underpinning it.

Such a platform would offer an opportunity for debate and provoke thinking in a very important area for the teaching profession.
