Seminar Description
"Film is a superb vehicle to encourage the four capacities of Curricullum for Excellence. It is important that our pupils are not only taught but helped to become rounded, responsible global citizens. Working on the films," aiming high" towards the Discovery Film Festival and a screening of the films at the DCA proved to be a highly motivating factor for the pupils. This was "for real". It also allowed the teachers and pupils alike to explore something which was difficult, yet fun. Not an easy combination to find in the world of school and learning Mod Langs!"
Meryl James,  Quality Improvement Manager,  Perth & Kinross Education Authority

Discovery Film Festival at DCA has been presenting world cinema and developing 'moving image education' activity for the past four years demonstrating strong partnership between an arts organisation and Education Authorities.

Engaging pupils and teachers in making, viewing and responding to a range of world screen media has given us some key insights into 'sneaky teaching' via the Discovery Programme and classroom applications.

"It helped our learning because we were watching something with a gripping story that was in the language we are learning, and we all realised we could understand a bit. It just made us realise how much we are learning but it was funner (a lot) funner."
S3 Pupil from Forfar experiencing a Live Lesson for Languages session.

We will present evaluation outcomes and current pilot projects with Dundee, and Perth & Kinross Education Departments.
