| Seminar Description | Bringing together the two key themes for this year’s Scottish Learning Festival, this spotlight is of specific interest to practitioners looking to find out how Glow and Curriculum for Excellence will support the teaching and learning process. This session will discuss how Glow and Curriculum for Excellence can work together to offer the rich learning experiences and innovative teaching approaches to meet the Government’s ambition for a Smarter Scotland. While Curriculum for Excellence offers teachers the opportunity to teach in innovative ways, Glow can provide tools to help support this. During the session, you will find out how Glow and Curriculum for Excellence will help the teaching process by providing a new way of delivering curriculum guidance and resources access to collaborative tools which will promote creative learning and teaching. As Glow begins to roll out to more authorities in Scotland, it becomes clear how Glow provides a vehicle for driving forward the aspirations of Curriculum forExcellence. The presenters will show how Glow can support the delivery of a modern curriculum. Glow will benefit Curriculum for Excellence in a variety of ways – including providing access to high quality teaching resources. Teachers can deliver assignments online whilst using the tracking tools to save time. Equally, Glow offers opportunities for professional debate and dialogue across the country with colleagues. |

| Speaker biography | Gill Robinson
Gill is Chief Professional Advisor, Curriculum for Excellence. After research in chemistry, Gill taught in school, university and further education. She was seconded to the Scottish Executive Education Department in January 2004 as Head of Curriculum, Qualifications and Curriculum. She was a member of the Curriculum Review Group and Programme Director for Curriculum for Excellence. She is currently seconded to Learning and Teaching Scotland.
Marie Dougan
Marie Dougan, is currently the Programme Director for Glow at Learning and Teaching Scotland.
She began her teaching career as a biology and science teacher in both the secondary and special school sectors. Marie subsequently moved to supporting teachers in introducing the use of ICT and managed the information Technology Support Unit (ITSU). From 2002 until 2006 Marie managed the masterclass project in LTS. |
