Curriculum for Excellence is about providing the best possible learning opportunities for all our children and young people to help them become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors and to ensure that they have skills for learning, skills for work and skills for life. We want to ensure that Curriculum for Excellence delivers for all young people, including those at risk of disengagement and in need of more choices and more chances. There are a variety of reasons why young people become disengaged from education and we must therefore adapt a range of approaches to identifying and supporting young people at risk. With this in mind, in early 2008 the Scottish Government asked SCRE to gather case studies on the provision of flexible learning and support packages aimed specifically at young people who require more choices and chances and to make links with work going on Schools of Ambition, Curriculum for Excellence, Youth Work, Parental Involvement, GIRFEC, Looked After Children and Support for Learning. Zoe Ferguson, Team Leader for More Choices, More Chances in Schools Directorate, will discuss the approaches identified by SCRE and look at how these are making a difference. |
