Seminar Description

Glow is presently being rolled out across local authorities across Scotland. This rollout will lead to all schools being linked safely and securely and the provision of anytime anywhere access to learning.  Ultimately we aim to support provision of world-class personalised learning opportunities and which will be inspiring, fun and engaging.

Within this session we will feature real life examples of good classroom practice that have been generated by teachers and pupils from across Scotland. Hear from our experts and see how Glow created an appetite for learning and how this experience was enhanced as a result of the use of tools such as Glow Meet, Glow Learn and Glow Chat.

This seminar will highlight benefits which Glow will bring to the education arena such as;

  • provision of tools to support flexibility and choice within the curriculum, key to the implementation of  Curriculum for Excellence
  • greater access to high quality resources which can be matched to the needs of your learners,
  • turning a group of users into a community that shares, collaborates and communicates beyond the boundaries of the classroom
  • looking at the capacity the national site has for sharing

Speaker biographyMarie Dougan
Marie Dougan, the Programme Director for Glow began her teaching career as a biology and science teacher in both the secondary and special school sectors. She also worked as a teacher in a variety of hospital and home settings. Marie became interested in the potential of computer technology to enhance access to the curriculum for children with a variety of additional support needs. She completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties and was a tutor for this course for the University of Edinburgh. Marie subsequently moved to supporting teachers in introducing the use of ICT.
She then managed the information Technology Support Unit (ITSU) which provided support and advice to teachers in 150 schools within the City of Edinburgh. From 2002 until 2006 Marie managed the masterclass project in LTS
