Sustainable Development Education (SDE) is a new component in the curriculum, both as part of the outcomes and experiences of several curricular areas and as a cross-cutting theme in its own right. While it is new as major component, it encompasses many familiar topics and themes, such as climate change, enterprise, biodiversity, citizenship, health and well-being, outdoor learning, financial education, global issues and poverty. Most of these themes are prominent in a range of Curricular Areas, including Science and Social Subjects. This seminar will assist teachers and management team members explore the benefits to their school of an engagement with SDE. It will explore the four capacities and values that are embedded in Curriculum for Excellence, will examine these in relationship to developments in curriculum architecture and illustrate what is possible through fuller engagement with SDE within school. |
