Smooth transitions

This presentation will cover the transition arrangements developed between Coatholm Nursery School and St Mary's Primary School, North Lanarkshire.

The calendar covers an academic year with children from the primary coming back to the nursery, initially just to play with previous playmates and gradually, as their skills develop, coming to demonstrate their prowess in reading and mathematics to the nursery children. In discussion with staff the children agree learning is hard work.

The nursery children also visit the primary school on a regular basis and join primary one in a purposeful play session.

The accompanying nursery staff member takes storytelling sessions using the approaches from the nursery with books, puppets etc.

The presentation will cover the necessary planning and organisation, the current programme and the next steps following publication of Curriculum for Excellence Early Level draft experiences and outcomes.
